VoiceChoice Event

Since October, many of our Year 10 and Year 7 scholars have been working with local opera company, VoiceChoice. This has been supported by funding from both the Lady Carol Djanogly Memorial Fund, and Arts Council England. The Year 10's have been training as Arts Leaders, working with up to thirty Year 7 scholars towards a final performance.

A unique artist-led community organisation, run by international vocal coach Michelle Wegwart (Opra National de Paris, Opernhaus Zurich, Salzburg Festival) and Tim Lole, VoiceChoice's purpose is to open up opportunities for people from all backgrounds to develop singing and performance skills in ways that encourage creativity, self-expression and to encourage appreciation and understanding of music and singing in the community through first-class performances. The principle of VoiceChoice is that workshops are run in schools and communities based around a particular opera and involving the participants in a whole-range of creative activities which can include composing music, designing costumes and props, improvising dance, singing and acting, culminating in a final performance.

The final performance of our Djanogly Opera Start project will take place on Thursday, 29th February 2024 at 7pm in the Djanogly Theatre, Sherwood Rise. Based around Mozart's opera, The Magic Flute, this will see scholars perform songs, staging and choreography that they themselves have created, alongside international soloists and musicians performing extracts from the opera. There will be singers flying in from Stuttgart, Poland and Portugal, to name but a few, just for the event.

Tickets are now available by ringing Main Reception at both Gregory Boulevard (0115 942 1300) and Sherwood Rise (0115 942 4422), or alternatively you can email Mr L. Potter (Head of Music) at L.Potterr@djanogly.notts.sch.uk. A voluntary contribution would be appreciated.

Please come along and celebrate all the scholars hard work over the course of the project. It is a huge opportunity for those involved, and promises to be a really fantastic evening.
